Backyard Ultra World Team Championship 2026: Team Namibia. One loop. Every hour. Together.

Namibia is fielding a national team at the format's biennial global event: the same 6.706 km loop, run together, once every hour, until only one runner anywhere is still moving.

The rule is simple

Be back at the line
before the hour.

The format

How it
works.

No finish line, no fixed distance. Just attrition, on the hour, until one runner is left standing.

01

The yard

Every runner completes the same loop within the hour, then waits for the top of the next hour to start again. Each completed loop is called a yard. There is no fixed finish line and no fixed distance.

02

Attrition, not pace

A runner who fails to start the next yard on time, or does not complete it within the hour, is out. Everyone except the eventual winner records a DNF. That is the format, not a penalty.

03

Last one moving wins

The event ends when exactly one runner completes a yard that no one else finishes. That runner is the winner. The runner who stopped immediately before them is the assist, the last to fall.

04

Team scoring

At the World Team Championship, national teams are compared on how their strongest runners perform against the rest of the world, run concurrently on courses set to a comparable standard everywhere.
